About Me
- Ashley Gutierrez was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She created on-air promotional pieces at VH1 in New York and developed news packages for local media outfits before getting her degree in Broadcast Journalism at Grand Valley State University. Along the way, Ashley's eyes were opened to grassroots documentaries that were having a profound impact on lives across the world, and she refocused her talents.
  
  For the past four years Ashley has been working for Invisible Children, a media-based non-profit that influences policy and raises support for war-affected youth in central Africa. She creates documentaries and short films that connect youth to compelling stories of hope emerging from Africa’s longest-running war. Her films have been viewed by millions, including President Obama and State Department executives, and have been a source for creating long-term social and political change.
  
  Ashley is currently living and working in Uganda. She is available for freelance work and is able to travel if contacted in advance.

  Pair Burgan’s birthday alongside both of us only having a few weeks left in Uganda and you get a weekend trip.
  
  Friday brought us Jinga, gorging ourselves on pizza, and hanging upside down in a canoe. Saturday brought us an incredible horseback ride along the Nile, plus a night out in Kampala with friends. Sunday brought us sleeping on a bus floor, breaking down, and hitchhiking to Gulu. Zero complaints aside from me thinking I’m going to miss this place.
